What Line And Antenna Work Covers
A line and antenna install brings together the antennas, the cabling that feeds them, and the grounding and weatherproofing that keep the whole system reliable outdoors. Each part depends on the others being done right.
Antenna Mounting And Alignment
Antennas are mounted to the structure and set to the RF design — azimuth, height, and downtilt dialed in to hit the coverage and capacity the site is engineered for. Alignment is exacting work: the design only performs if the antenna points exactly where it’s supposed to.
Transmission Lines And Radios
Connecting antennas to the network means running transmission lines — traditional coax feedlines, or the hybrid fiber-and-power trunk cables that feed remote radios mounted up at the antenna. FTCI runs these lines, installs the radios, and terminates the jumpers, managing the cabling cleanly up the structure.
Grounding And Weatherproofing
Everything exposed to weather and lightning has to be bonded and sealed. Lines and antennas are grounded for surge protection and every outdoor connection is weatherproofed, because a single unsealed junction becomes the corrosion point that fails the site down the line.
Why Alignment And Connections Matter
Alignment is the difference between a site that performs and one that doesn’t. An antenna a few degrees off azimuth or tilt covers the wrong area, interferes with neighboring sites, or simply underdelivers. The equipment can be flawless and the site still fall short if the alignment isn’t precise.
Connections decide whether it stays that way. A marginal connector or an unsealed weatherproofing job may pass on day one and degrade over months as moisture works in. Getting every termination and seal right upfront is what keeps a site performing long after the crew leaves.
Testing And Verifying the Install
A line and antenna install isn’t finished when the last bolt is torqued — it’s finished when the RF paths are proven. Verification generally includes:
- Line sweep and return-loss testing to confirm each feedline path is clean
- Distance-to-fault checks to locate any reflection or fault in a run
- Confirming antenna azimuth, tilt, and height against the RF design
- Inspecting grounding and weatherproofing on every outdoor connection
